1. Introduction
Jamaica Laboratory and Industrial Suppliers Ltd (hereinafter "JAMLAB," "we," "us") is committed to protecting the privacy and rights of our customers, employees, and partners. This policy outlines how we collect, handle, and store personal data to meet the standards of the Data Protection Act, 2020 (Jamaica).


2. The Data Protection Principles
JAMLAB adheres to the eight (8) fundamental principles mandated by the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC):

Fairness and Lawfulness: Data is processed only with legal justification.

Purpose Limitation: Data is collected for specific, explicit, and legitimate purposes

Data Minimization: We only collect the data we absolutely need.

Accuracy: We take steps to ensure data is kept up to date.

Storage Limitation: Data is kept no longer than necessary.

Rights of Data Subjects: We respect the legal rights of individuals over their data.

Security: We use technical and organizational measures to prevent unauthorized access.

International Transfers: Data is not transferred outside Jamaica unless adequate protection is guaranteed.


3. Types of Data We Collect
As an industrial supplier, JAMLAB may process:
  • Customer Data: Names, business addresses, TRNs, contact numbers, and payment details.
  • Employee Data: NIS, P.A.Y.E. info, banking details, and performance records.
  • Technical Data: IP addresses or cookies if users visit our digital platforms.


4. How We Use Personal Data
JAMLAB processes data for the following reasons:
  • Fulfilling orders and delivering laboratory/industrial supplies.
  • Managing payroll and statutory obligations.
  • Direct marketing (only with explicit opt-in consent).
  • Complying with Jamaican tax and safety regulations.


5. Security Measures
To protect personal data from breaches or theft, JAMLAB employs:
  • Physical Security: Locked filing cabinets and restricted access to server rooms.
  • Digital Security: Strong password policies, encryption for sensitive files, and updated antivirus software.
  • Staff Training: Ensuring all employees understand their confidentiality obligations.



6. Rights of the Individual
Under the DPA, individuals (Data Subjects) have the right to:
Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about them.
Rectification: Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
Erasure: Request deletion of data when it is no longer needed.
Object: Withdraw consent for marketing at any time.


7. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a security breach that poses a risk to an individual's rights, JAMLAB will notify the Information Commissioner and the affected individuals within the timeframe mandated by Jamaican law.
